It’s nothing like going into your WordPress blog, and finding that it has been hacked. One of the worst attacks is the Pharma Hack as far as I am concerned, it is so vicious because it attacks your best indexed post and places anchor text that leads back to sites that sell viagra, and cialis.
These hackers are creating juice and backlinks off of the blog owners hard work basically, and there are thousands of victims on the web, some may not even know that they have been victimized.
Once you have been attacked your first course of action may be to do a search in whois to find out who is the owner of the sites in the anchor text, you may find out the information, but in a variety of cases the site owner’s name, address and telephone number may be fake, and when you call the hosting company they will not be able to help you, they usually will tell you that there is nothing they can do, plus they will suggest that you take legal action.
So what should you do? How can you keep this from happening to you?
A strong password would be a start, and from time to time you should change your password. When creating your blogs don’t use the default user name as admin, come up with another user name.
One thing that you should do as a WordPress blog owner is make sure that you keep your blog updated, make sure you upgrade to the current version of WordPress, and your plug ins should also be updated.
You also should periodically backup your files, and your database as well.
There are some websites that can help as well, they will guide you step-by-step and suggest some plug-ins that you can install for security. Here is a list of 2 sites that I found:
